The Palazzo del Cinema at Venice Lido has been opened for the occasion of the fifth edition of the Venice Film Festival in 1937.
Since that time the modernist building hosts the next editions of the festival, which will commence this year for the 66′th time.
It has been enlarged in 1952 with the new entrance hall, and almost every year undergoes some minor changes for the festival, in the future
is going to be replaced by the modern Palazzo better fit for international film festival demands.
The Film Festival is the main event organised here, but the separate rooms can be rented for the business meetings held during the rest of a year.
Palazzo del Cinema along with another historic palace – Palazzo del CasinĂ² and the large indoor arena Palagalileo form the Venice Congress Centre
with the capacity to serve more than 6000 people ( about 1500 in Palazzo del Cinema alone).
The rooms are located on three levels.

The most important and famous room at the Palazzo del Cinema is Sala Grande with 1 100 seats. This is the place where in front of the big movie screen are received Venice Film Festival Awards namely Golden and Silver Lions. The famous film director, Federico Fellini said once that – “entering the Palazzo del Cinema at the Venice Film Festival was like passing a final exam.” -
Another room with great tradition is Sala Volpi with 150 seats named after the person, who who gave birth to Venice Film Festival – Earl Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata.
