The relaxing tour outside of sunburned, busy city to see the famous residence of the popes and cardinals Villa d’Este with gardens at Tivoli and even more impressive residence of Roman Emperor – Villa Adriana.
An air-conditioned coach starts outside Termini Railway Station. During the summer season this is an afternoon departure, during winter – the morning tour.
You can be picked from some hotels in central Rome and dropped at the end in same place, or at some selected locations in the city.
The tour includes entrance fees to Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este, where you will be served by a local guide.
Villa Adriana ( Hadrian’s Villa ) is the largest and most impressive preserved villa from ancient times. Although emperor Hadrian enjoyed it for only three years, he left enormous collection of the buildings, sculptures and treasuries, some of them you can find in the best world museums. Today most of the buildings are ruins, but still resemble the famous monuments the emperor has seen during his voyages in Greece and Egypt.
The grottos and sculptures in the park gave inspiration for creators of Tivoli Gardens.
Villa d’Este has been transformed from the convent onto the country villa in 1550 for Cardinal Ippolito d’Este. The residence of popes and cardinals features Renaissance frescoes and original 16th century interiors, but most of the visitors came here to see the Gardens with numerous fountains, sculptures and hodden grottos. The whole complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
