This unique collection originally aimed to deliver the best examples from masters workshop’s to the students of Fine Arts Accademy with the time
grew to be one of the most important art collections in the world. The museum houses paintings and sculptures by the great Florentine Masters of the 14th to 16th centuries,
up to the 19th century art from Toscany, including worls of Lorenzo Bartolini.
But Galleria is a tribute to Renaissance art, and hosts splendid collection of Michelangelo’s masterpieces, including David and ‘Prisoners’ , Giambologna’s famous Rape of the Sabine Women, the Dispute of the Immaculate Conception by Carlo Portelli, and the wedding chest Cassone Adimari by Scheggio, dipicting the life of Florentine merchants from the era.
The other great names include Boticcelli, fra Bartolomeo and Philippino Lippi.
