The Capuchin Monks, who came here in 17th century filled five underground chapels with bones of 4000 humans. Some of the bones and skulls are pilled up, but many of them are arranged in simple Christina symbols. The display, somehow shocking is to draw attention to vanity of common life on the earth. The Capuchin crypt when open gathers crowds of visitors, so this tour allows to skip the line and visit the chapel in private. The number of the people in the group does not exceed 25. The tour is lead by an english-speaking guide.

Next are the Christian catacombs along Via Appia Antica , you can read more about their history here.

You will visit Catacombs of Domitilla, with layered recesses ( loculi ) here the bodies wrapped with shoud were stored.

The last stop on the tour is the Basilica of S.Clementus.You will see the interiorof the church, jet more interesting, again, will be the crypts underneath. The church has been founded in 4th century, and rebuilt after damages in 12th. To see are the walls of the first church, decorative Medieval frescoes and mosaics.
