A visit to the old part of capital of Apulia with picturesque palaces, historical houses,museums and art galleries, also the most significant churches in whole region.

Known as Barium during the Roman times the town became an important maritime port in 11th century, when it witnessed merchants from all over Italy trading with those, who came here from Orient. The masses of pilgrims arrived to Bari to see the relics of the local saint, St. Michael, many of them started from here their voyage to the Holy Land. And just in the neighbourhood of the old port there is Piazza Ferrarese, from which the tour starts. From the square you will see the ancient curves of Chiesa della Vallisa and immediately you will be taken for the journey into the past, wandering around old paved streets, strolling around museums and art galleries, breathing a gentle wind from the Adriatic Sea. And so during the tour you will see the panoramic views of the Adriatic waters. There are many of churches in Bari, you will visit two of them. Basilica di San Nicola features over 900 years of its existence, the Romanesque walls are filled with pieces of sacred art, tombstones of Italian nobility, and the grave of St.Michael. You will then discover the peaceful coexistence of the Catholic and Orthodox faith, whose celebrations are held on the two floors of the basilica. The Bari’s Cathedral of San Sabino is another example of Apulian Romanesque architecture with most of the details preserved from 12th century.
Later you will walk into the neighbourhood a building of the castle Svevo another Romanesuque structure with Byzantine details from early Middle Ages. The tour ends there leaving you to explore the castle by yourself, taste the local dish ‘frittura di parranza’ in neighbouring restaurant, or walk along so-called “road of orecchiette“, where there are ladies making orecchiette (typical ear-shaped pasta) throughout the day.
