The castle originating from 12th century build on the bank of River Lambro at the center of small village of Sant’Angelo has ben owned through the centuries by several powerful families of nearby Milan.

Castello di Sant'Angelo Lodigiano

The first part of its history it was the property of the Visconti and later the Sforza families.
In 1452 the manor and castle was donated by Francesco Sforza to Michele Matteo Bolognini granted as a reward for his services and for the help provided in the conquest of the Duchy of Milan.
Since then the name of the Rock is inextricably linked to that of the Bolognini family, from whom the building derives its name, until, in 900, this was extinguished, with Gian Giacomo Morando Bolognini. He undertook, however, to make the impressive castle restoration. It shows in fact today in impressive condition.
In 1933, the wife of the last Earl, Lydia Caprara, created a foundation in the fortress of the same name for testing and agricultural education, and also gave it the extensive grounds surrounding the castle.
The building now houses three museums
The Museum Morando Bolognini, containing antique furniture, a spectacular library, armory and valuable antiques, displayed in 27 beautiful rooms on the ground.
The Lombardy Museum of Agricultural History, which shows the evolution and the development of agriculture from the Neolitic era until today,
The Museum of Bread with cereals, instruments used in the process of bread making nd the various typed of bread from all over the world.
