The core of the Castle is a Roman stronghold, which has been later extenden by Inverardo Bornato in 1270. The residence has been reinforced with a ring of crenellated walls and towers, a moat and drawbridge, giving the appearance that he still retains. Abowe the main entrance there is a coat of arms of Gandini, who after purchasing it in 1562 added a new wing to the east of the castle with its frescoed rooms and touch the facade, giving it a look of luxury villa.
This renaissance villa surrounded by medieval walls has been a meeting point of Italian artists, among them was Dante Alighieri.
Inside of the castle there is a park of old trees, in the elevated position from which a clear day you can see the Apennines, the view that even Dante enjoyed several times.
The park features Lebanon cedars, deodara cedars, ginko bilboa and very rare Iaponic Sophora over 200 years old.
The cellars, once used as prison, since the late Middle Ages are a place of production of famous wine ‘Terre di Franciacorta’ , which is available today for degustation during the visit the the castle.
