Castello Bonoris

In : Lombardy  Guides:

The first documentary evidence relating to a fortified building on the hill of San Pancrazio dates back to 1107, when Montichiari was already an important place on the trade route between Brescia and Mantova. The castle protecting the village often changed the owners, and loose importance within the centuries.

Bonoris castle

In 19th century it was merely a memory of a castle, when Count Gaetano Bonoris decided to build his new residence, however the works got the name ‘renowation’ of old castle. Thus, the settlement is mostly 19th century vision of medieval fortress built on the ruins of the old ‘Rocca’. The architect Antonio Tagliaferri followed the style seen in Valle d’Aosta castles, particulary Fenis and Issogne.

Neo-Gothic castle has been enriched by the garden in 1901 modelling after Savoy garden and medieval village in Turin.

After the Count’s death the residence changed owners, until the year 1996, when it has been finally acquired by City of Montichiari.
