UNIKA The Symposium, themed “Muvemënt” (a combination of English and Ladino of the word “movement”), will be committed by almost all members of the group Unika, each is going to prepare one of 40 pieces that will make a huge, 6 meters high head of timber.

The sculpture will symbolise the concepts of self-consciousness and self-sufficiency. The scale of the work gives it a timeless character, the head itself, however, is the symbol of the group UNIKA and will be exhibited in Milan in 2015 at the Expo.

UNIKA, founded in 1994, is an association which unites sculptors, gilders, ornaments and polychrome sculptures of the Val Gardena. The group includes 40 artists, 30 of which involved each year in the event “Unika – sculptors at the Fair, which this year takes place September 1 to 4.

In these three days the artists will present their latest works and visitors will be able to see them at work, to communicate with them, learn more about the long tradition of artistic craftsmanship of the Val Gardena and buy their works.

Unika also has a permanent exhibition on 500 square meters. At Typak-Center, Via Arnaria 9, Ortisei – Roncadizza.

For art lovers and those who want to try this particular experience, the program includes two art classes from Val Gardena Active programme.
Every Monday till end of June in S. Cristina there will be held a course in painting, which includes a visit to a laboratory to see closely how works are created and which tools are used, including testing technique of painting with watercolor, to discover some little secret of the masters.

The second course is to sculpture, which takes place in Ortisei, from early June, under the careful guidance of teachers Gardena.

Also interesting is a visit to the Museum de Gherdeina , every Thursday, to rediscover the old wooden toys, see how they were constructed and admire the simplicity and flexibility of these precious objects. To see a sculptor at work, we recommend visiting the exhibition ART 52 in the center of Ortisei.

Finally, we recall the inauguration of the following shows: June 18, Mount Rasciesa, the bronze statues of the artist Wilhelm Senoner “The smell in the wind” and at the Library of Ortisei, July 23, the painting exhibition “Impressions” , Lots of Malsiner Moroder.
