Summer Cycling in Val Gardena

Summer in Val Gardena will be dedicated to the two wheels, thanks to the events held in June and July (Gran Fondo – June 2, 2011; Südtirol Sellaronda Hero – July 2, 2011; Sella Ronda Bike Day – July 3, 2011) and two new freeride tracks freeride on Ciampinoi above Selva di Valgardena, two different levels of difficulty and a drop of more than 550 meters, with jumps, bridges and curves.

On site www.mtb.dolomites.com you can download the GPS data of 30 mountain bike routes, with varying degrees of difficulty, including the Val Gardena and the Alpe di Siusi. The most famous route is the round “Sellaronda Track”, in both directions, with the aid of ski lifts, (approximately 6 hours drive).

We will begin on June 2 with the Gröden marathon/Gran fondo, a race with two distinct paths: the “long” of 111 km and the “short”, 77 km.
Expected departure from Ortisei, at around 09.00 am, for this race to freeride, part of the calendar Audace, and valid for the Italian Championship individual.
The route prepared for the athletes will lead through the Passo Sella, Pordoi, Arabba, Rocca Pietore, Alm Ciapela the Fedaia, Canazei, Selva di Val Gardena, Santa Cristina and Ortisei (www.grodenmarathon.com).

Sunday, July 3 in the saddle for all around the traditional steps Cycling: Sella Ronda Bike Day 2011. This is a tradition, that started six years ago, the only day a year with the four mountain pass roads closed to traffic, and only cycling enthusiasts have access to passes Gardena, Sella, Campolongo and Pordoi.
A Sunday without motor vehicles, 63 km of paved road and 1,780 meters in altitude, only available to two-wheeled pedal.
In 2010 there were more than 18,000 people who participated in the Sella Ronda Bike Day, which is not a race, thus is not subject to registration or restrictions.

The event will be repeated in September, Sunday 18th, and will be called Eco-Sella Ronda Bike Day, because it will be two days dedicated to ecology. Saturday 17 you can test the E-Bike and other electric vehicles and the streets Sunday for the 18 steps are again closed to traffic (www.sellarondabikeday.com).

For athletes trained hard and is given the opportunity to compete in the second edition of Südtirol Sellaronda Hero, which will see the road more than 1,500 cyclists from 20 different countries, on July 2. The toughest mountain bike race in Europe has two routes, 82 and 50 km (www.sellarondahero.com).
